An Insight To The Legacy Of An Oldest Nair Tharavadu 'Chakyarampuram'.
Chakyarampurathu Family Trust.
“Family is a circle of strength and love, supported by faith, acceptance
and sacrifice...with every reunion, the circle grows and becomes resilient.”
Times are changing and so are family systems in the modern era. When big families
are a rare watch these days, let me introduce you to my large, beloved, beautiful
family – a hamper with the sweetness of age-old values & the tanginess of new-gen
ethos.
The real Chakyarampurathu Tharavadu is far bigger and broader than the one
pictured in this. It is not worthwhile to include the entire family bibliography under
the cover, neither the horizon of this work calls for it, yet, cannot help remembering
the names of some loving family members like; S. Sivasankaran Pillai (Edappally
Ammavan), Narayana Pillai (the Shap Contractor), Thrikkalathoor Krishna Pillai,
Gopala Pillai, Chirakadavil Raman Pillai, Kampattumalil Narayana Pillai, Paramu
Pillai (Kalammakkudi), Ramakrishna Pillai, C.P.Janardhanan (Perumpuli kudiyil),
Sivasankaran Nair (Kizhakkel), Ramachandran Nair (Kizhakkel),
Chakyamrampurathu Narayana Pillai (Pongalil) etc. Among these, Sivasankara
Pillai, Ramakrishna Pillai, and C.P.Janardhanan were active socio-political
campaigners...unfortunately, none of the above members are with us today.
In fact, the family history of Western Chakyarampuram, Puthanveedu,
Vellamuthukudy, Mallil, Mundappilli, Peechilakkadu are associated with bigger
names like Malikathazham, and they are the ones whose history needs to be dugout.
Add on to it, if we coin the family tale of Kappillil, that becomes the history, story, and shadow of Pulluvazhy. We are not attempting to go for such an endeavor, but when analyzing relationships, all family names have been mentioned somewhere
or the other with due importance.

or the other with due importance.
The alliance of Chakyarampuram family and Malika Thazhath family with Kappilli
family nurtured fruitfully at the backdrop of marriages. The family head of
Malikathazhathu, Shri Parumu Pillai was married to Kappillil Parukkutti Amma.
Their brothers Kappilil Narayana Pillai and Sivaramapillai settled in
Chakyarampuram permanently under the shade of their sister’s connection by
getting married to the two sisters of Chakyarampuram. From this picture, the
inseparable bond between the two families is crystal clear. This indicates that Nair families related to the Chakyarampuram family were all settled within the belt of Pulluvazhy and surrounding areas.

For generations, the relationship wheel of Karimattathukarthas and
Chakyarampuram family are entangled with each other. Though they are basically
known as Karthas, documentary evidence reveals that they belonged to the original
Nair group, the special ‘crowning’ bestowed by the then ruling prince. The pride and
prosperity of the Chakyarampurathu family started with the handing over of
‘Pudava’ by the then Karanavar, Shri. Kunjan Kunji to Chakyarpurathu Lakshmi
Amma.
Narrating the history of the Chakyarampuram family is in itself a story of an entire
region, and much more...a language beyond the mouth. The knowledge imparted
through distant voices...is a pilgrimage indeed...combined with a little research. This blog is a gift to the younger and future generations who are curious about
their family roots, a never-ending journey...YES ...it’s a redefinition of an entire Village called Pulluvazhy.

their family roots, a never-ending journey...YES ...it’s a redefinition of an entire Village called Pulluvazhy.
Pulluvazhy - the Province of the Prominent: It is a place of cultural richness,
where all religions and caste dwells with brotherhood and communal harmony.
It is a model village that shows thumbs down to “Hartal” for decades. It’s the birth
land of many prominent politicians who were associated with our family in
one or the other way. To recollect, a few among them were Late MLA
Shri. P. Govinda Pillai, Late Chief Minister, and CPI leader Shri. P. K.
Vasudevan Nair, noted novelist and journalist Late Shri. MP Narayana Pillai, Late playwright Shri. Kalady Gopi, Late Minister Shri. KGR Kartha, Agro-Scientist and Vice-Chancellor Dr.Shyama Sundaran Nair, Late MLA Shri. P.R.Sivan, Jayakeralam High School Manager - Late Shri. Balakrishna Pillai, CPM Area Secretary Late Shri P.K. Gopalan Nair, present Communist Party Convener Shri Vaikkom Vishwam, and
many more gems likewise.
The time sequel is rolling. The journey to the endless dreams of the future, free
from the past chaos still continues. A look back at the current scenario where
relationships are shrinking and taking the form of captivity, where people are getting
confined to their own selfish world, we, like a determination, took up this
responsibility to strengthen family relations...thus giving birth to Chakyarampuram
Family Trust.

Inaugural Kudumbayogam
The inaugural Chakyarampuram Kudumbayogam took place in the month of
May’2001, at the courtyard of the “Tharavadu”. The sangamam was hailed as a
landmark event for the ancestral unit in the millennium year. It was a grand
success owing to the cooperation and active participation of a majority of the
parental members. During the function, the First Edition of the Directory
comprising the Chakyarampurathu Family History was released.

Blog - From Concept to Reality
During the consequent ‘Kudumba yogams’ that followed, members highlighted the
need for updating the family data on a regular basis. The proposal for developing a dedicated website was conceived from this. However, the site had to be renewed
every year which was practically difficult, so the concept of Blogging came into the
picture. This Blog is beneficial in the sense that it provides the latest data in the
family as a unit, serves as a forum of know-how, and keeps us informed on the
latest developments, thus making us realize the importance of each and every
family member spread across the globe.

Primary objective
As a rule, the system followed by traditional “Nair” families in Central Kerala
considers only the female lines (maternal) and their descendants as the rightful
members of the family. However, in view of the changed social scenario and to
ensure bonding among various family units under the umbrella of the central
the parental unit, descendants of both the male and female lines have been included
as members of the Kudumbayogam so that future generations would realize the
importance of forging links amongst them. This is deemed to be the primary
objective of this Blog.

Our Sincere and Humble Gratitude to the ‘Kudumba Karanavars’...
The inception of Kudumbayogam has cemented relationships. It is certainly an
inspiration to construct a strong edifice with the increased involvement of all
members. This Blog is intended to further strengthen our links. Strong family
ties lead to strong social bonds, hence it is of prime importance to know the roots
because on them nestles our tree. Further to brighten the lives of the progressing
generations, let the ‘Kudumba Deepam (family lamp)’ of our heritage, traditions
and culture continue to glow. With that said, we humbly pray to our ‘Kudumba
Paradevatha (family deity)’ and reverently seek her blessings.
Kudumba Kshetram: Pazhaya Veettil Bhagavati has been our family deity
(Paradevatha) all along. Periodical annual rites/poojas and paatu are performed
every year with the financial support of all the family members.
A Word of Caution
Historical background, narrations and ancestral data included in the blog are the
word of mouth versions passed on through generations. Digging up the roots of this
large three centuries-old family history had its own constraints, hence factual errors
are quite likely. There may be omissions also which are unintentional. Any of our
members are most welcome to throw more light on facts if they have authentic information available.

To preserve the history of the Chakyarampuram family as it emerges
is not an easy quest. To seek out the roots of a family, its ancestors, great
grandparents, etc., is a real herculean task, and even more difficult is to collect
the whereabouts that is widespread across India and abroad. This capsule act
of blogging, knowing that it is not as simple as said, is only because of the genuine
inspiration of the respected well-wishers in our family.

If you ask who is the number one among Bombay Malayalees, there is only
one answer ‘Ramji’. A considerate and loving human being who has helped
many of our family members by way of food, shelter, and job. It won’t be an
exaggeration if we address him as ‘Raman of Malayalees’. A great visionary of
the family trust, who donated a portion of his finances for the welfare of the trust.
Though he is no longer with us, his presence can be felt everywhere, during

She was the eldest one among the 6 daughters of Lakshmi Amma. The late MA
Govinda Pillai was her husband who hailed from Thiruvanchoor near Kottayam.
He was a full-time service-oriented personality, similar to that of today’s Village
Officer. After retirement, he took over the administration of the Kuttikattu
Mahadeva temple and remained in that position for a long time. He passed away
in 1968. Though they owned a house in Valayanchirangara, Pulluvazhy, in the
name of ‘Sree Krishna Vilasam’, the family was more known under the name
‘Chakyarampurathu Thekkekkara’.
